Patron Saint Vincent de Paul
St. Vincent de Paul was born on April 24, 1581. He was
a priest who devoted his life to caring for the poor,
sick, imprisoned, orphans, and elderly. St. Vincent
established seminaries and religious orders to carry
on his work. The St. Vincent de Paul Society continues
his work today.
St. Vincent de Paul is the patron saint of many charitable
causes:
* Against leprosy
* Brothers of Charity
* Charitable societies
* Charitable workers
* Charities
* Horses
* Hospital workers
* Hospitals
* Lepers
* Lost articles
* Madagascar
* Prisoners
* Diocese of Richmond, Virginia
* Spiritual help
* Saint Vincent de Paul Societies
* Sisters of Charity
* Vincentian Service Corps
* Volunteers
Many Catholics who have St. Vincent de Paul as a patron
wear a St. Vincent de Paul medal or a St. Vincent de
Paul pendant in his honor. Wearing a St. Vincent de
Paul medallion is a reminder to carry on the charitable
works of mercy that St. Vincent
established centuries ago.
Prayer to St. Vincent de Paul
Dear Saint Vincent, the mere mention of your name
suggests a litany of your virtues: humility, zeal, mercy,
self-sacrifice. It also recalls your many foundations:
Works of Mercy, Congregations, and Societies. And the
Church gratefully remembers your promotion of the priesthood.
Inspire all Charitable Workers, especially those who
minister to the poor - both the spiritually and the
materially poor. Amen
Saint Vincent de Paul Prayer
O God,
Who did endow blessed Vincent
with apostolic power for preaching the Gospel to the
poor
and for promoting the honor of the priesthood;
we beseech Thee, grant that we who venerate his holy
life
may be inspired by the example of his virtues.
St. Vincent de Paul Quotes:
* Give me persons of prayer and they will be capable
of anything.
* What! To be a Christian and see a Brother afflicted
without weeping with him, without being sick with him,
would be to be without charity, to be a mere picture
of a Christian, to be without humanity, to be worse
than brute beasts!
* The Church teaches us that mercy belongs to God. Let
us implore Him to bestow on us the spirit of mercy and
compassion, so that we are filled with it and may never
lose it. Only consider how much we ourselves are in
need of mercy.
