Patron Saint Timothy
St. Timothy was a gentile and his mother was Jewish.
He was converted to Christianity by St. Paul in 47 A.D.
The two men became close friends and St. Paul considered
Timothy to be like a son to him. St. Timothy became
the Bishop of Ephesus and was martyred there in 97 A.D.
when he tried to stop the worship of the pagan god Dionysius.
St. Timothy was named the patron saint of intestinal
disorders and diseases of the stomach. The feast of
St. Timothy is celebrated on January 26.
Many Catholics who suffer from these digestive disorders
pray to St. Timothy for relief from their suffering.
They wear a St. Timothy charm or a St. Timothy medal
hoping for his intercession during their illness.
Many people also give a St. Timothy necklace to a loved
one who is afflicted with stomach disorders or intestinal
distress. They hope the St. Timothy medal offers solace
during their suffering.
Prayer to Saint Timothy
Dear Saint, well known for your gentleness, you were
a most faithful disciple of Saint Paul, and like him
traveled much to bring the Good News to all people.
The Letters Paul wrote to you reveal your zeal and inspire
us with confidence in you. You too were cast into prison
and you too gave your life for Christ. So with confidence
we dare to ask, please obtain relief for {name of sufferer},
if it be God's will.
