About Saint Sharbel
St. Sharbel lived between 1828 and 1898. He was born
in Bikaakafra to a poor family. St. Sharbel entered
the monastery and after sixteen years, he became a hermit.
St. Sharbel lived in the hills, praying constantly and
living in silence. He died on Christmas Eve in 1898.
Miracles of St. Sharbel
The many miracles of St. Sharbel began when his tomb
was opened in 1950. His body was not corrupted and many
cures began taking place. People from all over Lebanon
went to pray to St. Sharbel at his gravesite. Thousands
of letters testifying to the miraculous cures are kept
in the archives of Annaya. Because of the cures of St.
Sharbel, hundreds of conversions took place.
St. Sharbel was canonized a saint by Pope Paul VI on
December 5, 1965.
Prayer to St. Sharbel
After his death, many believers went to St. Sharbel's
grave and prayed for cures of the body and the spirit.
Today, many Catholics wear a St. Sharbel medal or a
St. Sharbel charm and pray for the intercession of St.
Sharbel for their own spiritual needs.
St. Sharbel Prayer
O God, admirable in your Saints, You who inspired
Saint Charbel to follow the way of perfection and gave
him the grace and strength in life to prevail in the
heroism of the monastic virtues: obedience, chastity
and voluntary poverty, and manifested the power of his
intercession through numerous miracles and graces, grant
us the grace... which we ask of You through his intercession!
Amen.
Prayer to St. Charbel Makhlouf
Lord, infinitely Holy and Glorified in Your Saints,
You have inspired Charbel, the saint monk,
to lead the perfect life of a hermit.
We thank You for granting him the blessing
and the strength to detach himself from the world
so that the heroism of the monastic virtues of poverty,
obedience, and chastity,
could triumph in his hermitage.
We beseech You to grant us the grace of loving and serving
You,
following his example.
Almighty God, Who has manifested
the power of St. Charbel's intercession
through his countless miracles and favours,
grant us...
(State your intention(s) here...)
through his intercession.Amen.
The feast of Saint Sharbel is celebrated on the third
Sunday of July.
