St. Lillian of Spain

St. Lillian was one of the Martyrs of Cordoba martyred by Caliph Abd ar-Rahman II in Cordoba, Spain in the year 852. Spain was ruled by the Moors at the time and all Christians were persecuted. She was killed alongside her husband, Saint Felix and Saints Aurelius, Natalia, and George.

St. Lillian and the other martyred saints were given four days to denounce their Christian faith and profess Islam. They refused to deny their faith in Jesus and were condemned to death.

St. Lillian Today

Many Catholics give a St. Lillian medal to girls who are Baptized with the names Elizabeth, Lily, Lila, or Lillian. These are the most common derivatives of the name. St. Lillian is also known as St. Liliosa in Spain.

You were willing to face the harsh persecution of the Moors in order to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Saint Lillian, you gave your life along with your husband, Saint Felix and now live with Jesus in paradise forever and ever.
Look over us and help us to live with your courage and faith. Guide us to remain steadfast in our Faith and spread Jesus' love to everyone we meet. Amen.
