St. Jason of Tarsus
St. Jason was born is Tarsus and was a convert to Christianity.
St.
Paul appointed him to be the Bishop of Tarsus. St.
Jason traveled to Corfu, an island where he built a
church honoring the Apostle
Stephen. St. Jason and a fellow missionary, Sosipater
converted many people to Christianity.
St. Jason Imprisoned
The pagan king of Corfu imprisoned St. Jason and Sosipater
for preaching about the teachings of Jesus Christ. While
in prison, St. Jason converted seven imprisoned criminals
to Christianity:
* Saturninus
* Jakischolus
* Faustianus
* Januarius
* Marsalius
* Euphrasius
* Mammius
These seven converts of St. Jason were martyred by the
king who immersed them in boiling pitch. Cercyra, the
king's daughter, witnessed the torture of the holy men
and became a Christian herself. She gave all her wealth
to the poor.
The king put his own daughter in prison but she would
not deny her faith in Jesus.
The king burned the prison in which his daughter was
locked but no harm came to her. When the pagans of the
island witnessed this miracle, many were converted.
Cercyra was martyred by her father when he tied her
to a tree and killed her with arrows.
St. Jason Patron Saint
St. Jason is the patron saint of converts because he
did so much to convert many people into Christianity.
His faith led him to preach the words of Jesus in spite
of the persecution and martyrdom of so many early Christians.
Many people studying to enter the Catholic faith receive
