St. Hubert Patron Saint of Hunters

St. Hubert was converted by God while he was in the forest hunting. St. Hubert was riding his horse and saw a beautiful stag. The stag turned toward him and St. Hubert was astounded by a crucifix that was hovering between the stag's antlers. The Lord spoke to St. Hubert, telling him to go and see Bishop Lambert. St. Hubert did as the Lord instructed and eventually became a bishop himself. He converted many people to Christianity just as he was converted.

St. Hubert was named the patron saint of hunters because of his love for hunting but also because he hunted for those people he needed to convert. He brought Christianity and the love of Jesus Christ to everyone he met, hunting souls that needed the mercy and love of Jesus.

St. Hubert Prayer

Lord, you spoke to St. Hubert (patron saint of hunters) and converted him to You during a stag hunt. You changed him into a hunter of souls, yet you continued to use his skills as a hunter to open minds to your Gospel. I ask that you make me into a hunter of souls above all other hunting activities. May I look for the opportunities to speak of You and Your salvation. Let the hunting camp itself be a place that uplifts the soul. May my time alone be an opportunity to pray and listen to You. May all the actions of the rest of my life be a constant hunt for You, for the opportunities you give me to evangelize, and to target the souls most in need of Your love.

St. Hubert and the Outdoorsman

St. Hubert reminds all outdoorsman of the blessings God has bestowed upon them. Wearing a St. Hubert medal is a reminder to hunters of all kinds to pray for good sense while hunting, avoiding accidents while carrying weapons. A St. Hubert pendant also reminds outdoorsman to pray for and respect the animals that they hunt, remaining humane and not causing needless suffering to any animal.
