St. Hildegard von Bingen
- a Great Woman
St. Hildegard von Bingen was a visionary born in 1098.
She was given to a monastery when she was eight years
old and became a nun at eighteen. After serving twenty
years as a nun, she was named magistra of her convent.
For the next four years, she experienced many visions
and was instructed by God to write them down. It took
St. Hildegard von Bingen the ten years from 1140 to
1150 to record her visions.

Not only did St. Hildegard record her visions but she
wrote over seventy poems and nine books, as well. Two
of these books contain medical advice and pharmaceutical
instructions using herbs as remedies.
St. Hildegard wrote theological works and spiritual
works. Her three major works, dealing with her visions
are entitled:
* Scivias
* Liber Vitae Meritorum
* De Operatione Dei

St. Hildegard von Bingen has gained widespread popularity
today. Her works on science, religion, art, and poetry
have made a comeback in todays world because of the
insights she reveals. Many Catholics study her works
