Patron Saint Helen
St. Helen is believed to have found the One True Cross
Christ while on a pilgrimage to Palestine in order
to walk in His footsteps. She was the mother of Constantine
who was instrumental in the spread of Christianity throughout
the world. St. Helen is also known as Saint Helena,
Helena Augusta, and Helena of Constantinople. She is
the patron saint of:
* Difficult marriages
* Divorced people
* Helena, the capital of Montana
Many Catholics pray to St. Helen and wear a St. Helen
charm or a St. Helen necklace in remembrance of her.
She was an important part in the formation of Christianity
in the world and Catholics pray for her intercession
in giving them the strength to remain true to the faith.
Eusebius Writes of St. Helen
Eusebius of Caesarea was the bishop of Caesarea Palaestina
in 314 A.D. and recorded the history of the early Christian
church. He wrote the following description about St.
"Especially abundant were the gifts she bestowed
on the destitute and the unprotected poor. To some she
gave money; to others an ample supply of clothing. She
liberated some from imprisonment or from the bitter
servitude of the mines. Others she delivered from unjust
oppression, and others again she restored from exile.
While her character derived luster from such deeds,
she was far from neglecting personal piety toward God.
She might be seen continually frequenting His Church.
She adorned the houses of prayer with splendid offerings,
but did not overlook the churches of the smallest cities.
This admirable woman was to be seen, in simple and modest
attire, mingling with the crowd of worshippers and testifying
her devotion to God by her pious conduct."
The first window reminds us that St. Helena found Christ
in the service of the poor and recognizes her works
Prayer to St. Helen
Holy and blessed Saint Helen, with the anguish and
devotion with which you sought the Cross of Christ,
I plead that you give me God's grace to suffer in patience
the labors of this life, so that through them and through
your intercession and protection, I will be able to
seek and carry the Cross, which God has placed upon
me, so that I can serve Him in this life and enjoy His
glory ever after. Amen.
