Prayers to St. Genesius
St. Genesius of Rome is the patron saint of actors and
people in all aspects of the theatre and cinema. He
was martyred for his conversion to Christianity while
performing for the Emperor Diocletian around 330 A.D.
St. Genesius was named the patron saint of actors because
he was an actor himself as well as a playwright.
Many actors from movies and theatre today wear a St.
Genesius necklace or a St. Genesius pendant in honor
of this actor and saint. His story is told throughout
the acting world and St. Genesius gaining in popularity.
His feast day is celebrated on August 25.
At the time of his martyrdom, legend has it that St.
Genesius of Rome said, "There is no King but
Him whom I have seen. I adore and worship Him, and for
His sake, even though I be slain a thousand times, I
will always be His. Torments are not able to take Christ
from my mouth, nor from my heart. Bitterly do I regret
that I detested His Holy Name in holy men, and came
so late, like a haughty soldier, to adoring the true
King. Amen.
Prayer to St. Genesius
Dear Genesius, according to a very ancient story when
you were still a pagan, you once ridiculed Christ while
acting on the stage. But, like Saul on the road to Damascus,
you were floored by Christ's powerful grace. You rose
bearing witness to Jesus and died a great martyr's death.
Intercede for your fellow actors before God, that they
may faithfully and honestly perform their roles and
so help others to understand their role in life thus
enabling them to attain their end in heaven. Amen.
St Genesius Prayer for the Sick
Saint Genesius, listen to the prayers of those who invoke
you. You are a witness to the grace and the power of
the love of Jesus
Christ, our Saviour, and as you laid down your life
for his sake, you opened your heart to sing of his mercy
for all generations to hear. Pray for those who are
sick and for all who are in need (mention your intention
here); intercede, dear friend, that like you they may
find their strength, joy and consolation in the Heart
of our Crucified Saviour. Amen.
