Saint Francis de Sales
Patron Saint
While in Geneva, St. Francis de Sales developed a sign
language to use with deaf people in order to explain
and teach them about Catholicism. He was named the patron
saint of the deaf because of his work creating sign
language.
St. Francis is also the patron saint of writers and
journalists because he was a writer himself. His most
famous book was the Introduction to the Devout Life.
St. Francis de Sales also wrote a mythical story entitled,
Treatise on the Love of God. He was also the author
of many spiritual works.
St Francis de Sales Blessing
St. Francis offers a blessing to all those who reads
his Treatise on the Love of God with the following words,
"Thus my dear reader, I beseech God to bless
you and to enrich you with his love. Meanwhile from
my very heart, I submit all my writings, my words and
actions to the correction of the most holy Catholic,
Apostolic, and Roman Church, knowing that she is the
pillar and ground of truth, wherein she can neither
be deceived nor deceive us, and that none can have god
for his father who will not have this Church for his
mother."
St. Francis de Sales Prayer
From: The Treatise on the Love of God.
O love eternal, my soul needeth and chooseth Thee
eternally!
Ah, come Holy
Ghost, and inflame our hearts with Thy love!
To love -- or to die!
To die -- and to love!
To die to all other love in order to live in Jesus'
love, so that we may not die eternally;
but that we may live in Thine eternal love, O Saviour
of our souls, we eternally sing, "Live, Jesus!
Jesus, I love!
Live, Jesus,
whom I love!
Jesus, I love, Jesus Who liveth and reigneth forever
and ever.
AMEN.
St. Francis de Sales Gifts
Many Catholics today give a St. Francis de Sales medal
as a gift to friends or relatives who are deaf or have
a career in writing. The St. Francis de Sales pendant
is a reminder to strive to do the will of God no matter
what the circumstances because everything from God is
good. Reciting the St. Francis de Sales prayer and wearing
a St. Francis de Sales medallion offers believers in
Jesus Christ inspiration and strength.
