St. Dorothy Virgin Martyr
St. Dorothy, born to a noble family of Rome, denied
pagan idols and practiced Christianity. Her parents
and two sisters also discarded pagan idols and fled
from Rome to Cappadocia.
St. Dorothy Christened
St. Dorothy was Christeded by the bishop, St. Appollinarius
and turned away from her worldly possessions. She lived
in poverty and was humble, meek, and chaste. The provost
wanted her as a wife but she refused his advances in
the name of Jesus.
Saint Dorothy's Tortures
Saint Dorothy suffered many tortures for defending her
* Placed in a vat of burning oil
* Imprisoned for nine days without food or water
* Hanged on a gibbet, upside down, then ripped with
iron hooks, * beaten, scourged, branded, and her breasts
As Saint Dorothy died, God spoke to her from the heavens:
Come to me,
my dear spouse and true virgin, for all thy love is
granted to thee that hast prayed for, and also
whom thou prayest for shall be saved; and when thou
hast received the crown of martyrdom thou
shalt come to the bliss of heaven without end, for thy

Praying to St. Dorothy
Today's Catholics pray to St. Dorothy to strengthen
their faith and for the perseverance and strength to
defend Christianity. St. Dorothy, the patron saint of
newlyweds, gardeners, flowers, and midwives is often
remembered by wearing a St. Dorothy necklace or a St.
Dorothy charm. The following prayer is often recited
while wearing a St. Dorothy medal, asking for the strength
to remain true to Jesus even when it is most difficult.
St. Dorothy Prayer
Your lamb Dorothy, calls out to You, O Jesus, in
a loud voice:
"I love You, my Bridegroom, and in seeking You
I endure suffering.
In baptism I was crucified so that I might reign in
You, and I died so that I might live with You.
Accept me as a pure sacrifice,for I have offered myself
Through her prayers save our souls, since You are merciful.
