St. Colette Reformer

St. Colette lived from 1380 to 1447. She reformed the Poor Clares and founded a new convent, the Poor Clares Colettines.

St. Colette told her sisters of Poor Clares, "We must faithfully keep what we have promised. If through human weakness we fail, we must always without delay arise again by means of holy penance, and give our attention to leading a good life and to dying a holy death. May the Father of all mercy, the Son by his holy passion, and the Holy Spirit, source of peace, sweetness and love, fill us with their consolation. Amen."

St. Colette prayed constantly for the Church in spite of the demons that hovered around her. The demons took the form of insects which stung St. Colette all over her skin. These devils carried rotting corpses into her cell and struck her with forceful blows.

The devils tempted St. Colette, yet she resisted. The devils said to her, "Cease your prayers to the great Master of the Church, and we will cease to torment you; for you torment us more by your prayers than we do you."

St. Colette Patron Saint

St. Colette is the patron saint of people who have lost their parents because St. Colette became an orphan when she was a teenager.

Many Catholics give a St. Colette medal or a St. Colette pendant to friends or families who have lost their parents. The St. Colette medal is a reminder to the grieving children that they are not alone in this world but have the love of Jesus by their side. St. Colette devoted herself to Jesus and is a wonderful example of faith and endurance.
