St. Bridget of Sweden
Prayer
St. Bridget of Sweden lived during the fourteenth century.
She is best known for her Fifteen Prayers in devotion
to the wounds of Jesus
Christ. She prayed to Jesus, asking Him how many
wounds were inflicted upon Him during His passion. Jesus
revealed to St. Bridget the number of His wounds:
"I received 5480 blows on My Body. If you wish
to honor them in some way,say 15 Our Fathers and 15
Hail Marys with the following Prayers for a whole year.
When the year is up, you will have honored each one
of My Wounds."
He gave St. Bridget The Fifteen Prayers of Saint Bridget
to recite every day for one year in devotion to His
wounds.
In 1372 during one of the visions of St. Bridget, Jesus
spoke to her saying:
"O my enemies, why do you so boldly commit such
sins and do other things contrary to my will? Why have
you neglected My Passion? Why do you not attend in your
hearts to how I stood' naked on the cross and cried
out, full of wounds and clothed in blood?
"But your eyes and heart forget and neglect all
these things. And so you behave like prostitutes, who
love the delight of the flesh, but not of its offspring.
For when they feel a living infant in their womb, at
once they procure an abortion so that without losing
their fleshly pleasure, they may always engage in their
foul intercourse."
Honoring the Passion of Jesus
Christians today honor the Passion of Jesus by wearing
a St. Bridget medal or St. Bridget necklace and reciting
the Fifteen Prayers of St. Bridget. St. Bridget of Sweden
spoke to Jesus and He responded to her. Wearing a St.
Bridget pendant brings all Christians closer to Jesus
and eternal salvation.
