Who Is Saint Athanasius?
Saint Athanasius is an honored saint of most of the
Christian churches in the world. His feast day is celebrated
on the day of his death which is May 2. The Catholic
Church considers Saint Athasius a Doctor of the Church.
St Athanasius Prayer
The following prayer to Saint Athanasius is recited
in some Orthodox churches.
O Holy father Athanasius,
like a pillar of orthodoxy
you refuted the heretical nonsense of Arius
by insisting that the Father and the Son are equal in
essence.
O venerable father, beg Christ our God to save our souls.
St Athanasius Writings
St. Athanasius Writings consist of over 57 volumes of
liturgical doctrine. He also helped compile the twenty-seven
books of the New Testament which all Christians continue
to study today. St. Athanasius writings include many
explanations of the fundamental belief that the Incarnation
of Jesus
and His death on the cross are the essential basis of
the Christian theology. He wrote about Jesus dying for
the salvation of mankind.
St. Athanasius Quotes
The following are St. Athanasius quotes about his beliefs
and tenets of the Christianity:
In the beginning wickedness did not exist.
Nor indeed does it exist even now in those who are holy,
nor does it in any way belong to their nature.
So purity of soul is sufficient of itself to
reflect God, as the Lord also says, "Blessed are
the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
For having in ourselves faith, and the kingdom
of God, we shall be able quickly to see and perceive
the King of the Universe, the saving Word of the Father.
But that the soul is made immortal is a further
point in the Church's teaching which you must know,
to show how the idols are to be overthrown.
The writings of Saint Athanasius are still studied by
modern day clergy and Christian people. The many volumes
of his writings are sometimes difficult to understand
due to their philosophical nature but the basic tenets
are invaluable to the Christian faith.
Many Christians wear a Saint Athanasius medal or a Saint
Athanasius necklace as a symbol of the Christian faith
and beliefs. The Saint Athanasius charm is an outward
symbol of thanks to this great theologian for making
clear the basics of the Christian faith.
