Saint Aaron of Aleth
Not too much is written about Saint Aaron but it is
known that he lived during the sixth century. He was
a recluse who then entered a monastery named Cesambre.
The monastery was situated on a secluded island near
Aleth in Brittany, France. The island could not be reached
unless it was low tide. The island became known as the
Isle of Aaron to honor St. Aaron until 1150.
It is a mystery exactly where St. Aaron was born but
historians know it was in the British Islands, probably
Wales. Some historians say he died a martyr with several
other monks while other historians believe he died of
natural causes after 522. His feast day is June 22.
Saint Malo visited Saint Aaron on the island and learned
from him for many years. After St. Aaron's death, St.
Malo became the Bishop of Aleth.
Remembering Saint Aaron Today
Not many people today know who St. Aaron was or what
he did but St. Aaron was a devout, holy man who welcomed
many Christian visitors to his island. He lived for
the glory of God with no concern for his own needs.
He sacrificed everything to follow the way of Christ.
Today, Christians remember Saint Aaron by wearing a
Saint Aaron medal in his honor. Wearing a Saint Aaron
necklace is a reminder for all Christians to be humble,
devout, and not be concerned with material things.
