The Origin of the Seven
Gifts of the Holy Spirit
The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit first appear in Bible
scripture in the Book of Isaiah11:1-3
"But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of
Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit
of the Lord shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom
and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength,
a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord, and his
delight shall be the fear of the Lord".
The Seven Spiritual Gifts are bestowed upon Christians
during the Sacraments
of Baptism and Confirmation. In Confirmation, Catholics
become true soldiers of Christ, receiving the Seven
Gifts to strengthen their resolve in living in the faith
of Jesus. During the Sacrament of Confirmation, the
bishop holds his hands over the person to be confirmed
saying, "All powerful God, Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit you freed
your sons and daughters from sin and gave them new life.
Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and
guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit
of knowledge and reverence. Fill them with the spirit
of wonder and awe in your presence. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. Amen."
Confirmation Gifts of the Spirit
Confirmation Seven Gifts jewelry is ideal for someone
being confirmed. The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit
are depicted on the Seven Gifts pendant as a reminder
to the confirmed to remain true to the word of Christ.
The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit offers the newly
confirmed the courage to live the path of Jesus, outwardly
professing faith in Him. The Seven Spiritual Gifts of
piety, fear of the Lord, knowledge, understanding, counsel,
wisdom, and fortitude are clearly displayed on the Seven
Gifts jewelry.
