On December 27, 1673 St. Margaret began a series of revelations
that were to continue over the next year and a half. These included twelve promises
by Christ to her and to those who practiced a true to devotion to His Sacred Heart,
whose crown of thorns represent his sacrifices. He instructed her in a devotion
that was to become known as the Nine Fridays and the Holy Hour, and asked that
the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus be established. The
devotion originally encountered violent opposition, but eventually St. Margaret
received the support of Blessed Claude La Colombiere, who declared that the visions
were genuine. A chapel was built at the Paray-le-Monial to honor the Sacred Heart
of Jesus.
