Rosary novenaA
novena is a performance of nine consecutive spiritual acts. Its origins
lie in the nine days between the Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit
that the apostles prayed and waited. The rosary novena tradition started
in 1884 when Mary, as Our Lady of the Rosary, appeared to Fortuna Agrelli,
instructing her to pray a 54 day novena in order to be cured of her ailments.
This rosary novena requires a great commitment of time and prayer. You must
pray five decades of the rosary for 27 days, asking for your petition, and
then five decades of the rosary for another 27 days in thanks, even if
your petition has not yet been granted. Many people have reported cures after
saying this rosary novena. Your rosary novena, however, does not have to
follow this tradition; any rosary said over nine hours, nine days or nine
weeks is a novena. For example, you could pray one decade of the rosary each
day for nine days. The important things are to pray fervently and to follow
through with your commitment. Novenas are a way of offering yourself to God.
You are asking God as Father to grant your request, and yet you are trusting
completely in His will. |
