Rosary instructionsThe
rosary used to be taught from babyhood, at the knees of mothers and fathers
in the family setting, but that practice is not as common now; so it is not
unusual for Catholics to seek out rosary instruction as they discover this
wonderful prayer for themselves. The instructions for the rosary prayer are
easy but learning to pray devoutly takes time and patience. The first instructions
are to say the Apostles Creed on the crucifix as you hold it. Next
you say an Our Father on the large bead and three Hail Marys on the
three smaller beads. Follow this with a Glory Be on the next large bead.
The second set of instructions is for the circle of the rosary beads.
First, you must choose a set of mysteries to meditate on while you say the
rosary: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful or Glorious. Your next instruction is
to begin with an Our Father for which there is no bead but you can finger
the rosary center while you are praying it. Then you pray ten Hail Marys
on the set of ten small beads, continuously meditating on the mysteries you
have chosen. Finish this decade with a Glory Be for which there is no bead.
The instructions continue as before, only now use the large bead to pray
the Our Father. It is customary to finish the rosary with Hail Holy
Queen or some other such prayer. As was said before, the instructions are
simple; the most difficult and rewarding part of praying the rosary is learning
to shut out the outside world and the inner workings of our minds so that
we are concentrating only on God as we pray. This will come with time and
is well worth your effort and devotion. |
