Rosary new mysteriesThe new
mysteries of the rosary, called the Mysteries of Light, are no longer that
new. They were introduced by the Pope in October of 2002, and so have been
with us for almost four years now. Still, when comparing them in age to the
fifteen original rosary mysteries, they are quite recent. Pope John Paul
proclaimed these new mysteries because he felt there was something missing
between the Joyful Mysteries and the Sorrowful Mysteries of the rosary, the
events of Jesus ministry. The first new mystery is the Baptism of Jesus.
The second new mystery of the rosary is the Wedding at Cana. The third
new mystery is the Proclamation of the Kingdom of God. The fourth new mystery
of the rosary is the Transfiguration. The last new mystery is the Installation
of the Eucharist. These new mysteries of the rosary effectively cover five
of the most important events of Jesus life, before we begin meditating
on the mysteries of His death. They complete the picture of Jesus life
sketched out in the original fifteen rosary meditations. Though new, the
Mysteries of Light fit into the rosary as though they were always meant to
be part of it. |
