Mary queen of the rosaryWe
Catholics give Mary the name Queen of the Holy Rosary because she has advocated
this prayer through revelations to different visionaries, even in our modern
times. Mary already has the name Queen for Catholics because we believe she
was crowned Queen of Heaven by God. This event is also prayed as one of the
meditations of the rosary. A queen has concern for and dedication to her subjects
and we believe Mary has these feelings and more for us. God has given her
the role of advocate and we plead for that advocacy with our rosary prayers.
We honor a queen because she is mother to the heir of the throne, just as
Mary is the mother of Jesus, Son of God. Again we celebrate this mystery when
we pray the Joyful Meditations of the rosary. We honor Mary as queen because
holy revelation has told us to do so, but I believe God has also given her
to us in response to our dedication to her. We can relate to Mary as a fellow
human and she fulfills the universal need for the feminine and the mother.
Just as a queen is supreme mother to her subjects, Mary embraces us with all
of her love, begging us to be loyal to the King, our God. I believe she encourages
us to pray the rosary because it turns our hearts to Jesus and the events
of his life. As queen of the rosary, all supplications go through her, straight
to God. The rosary will forever be Mary¹s prayer, but as all loyalty
to the queen honors the king, when we pray it, we are dedicating ourselves
to God. |
