St. Dismas

About Saint Dismas

Saint Dismas was one of the thieves crucified beside Jesus Christ.  He is known as the Good Theif because he asked Jesus to forgive him and that he believed Jesus was the Son of God.  Jesus forgave Saint Dismas while on the cross and promised him that he would be in Paradise with Jesus.  Saint Dismas died on the right side of Jesus in 33 A.D.

(Luke 23:39-43) 39 Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, "Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us." 40 The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, "Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? 41 And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 He replied to him, "Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise."

Saint Dismas Feast Day

The feast of Saint Dismas is on March 25.  Many Christians pray to Saint Dismas on this day, asking his intercession for the forgiveness of their sins.  Jesus forgave Saint Dismas from the cross and Christians hope for the same mercy and forgiveness for themselves.

Many Christians wear a Saint Dismas medal or a St. Dismas pendant as a reminder to pray for forgiveness and do penance for their sins.  Christians realize that no matter what sins they have committed, Jesus is willing to forgive them if they sincerely repent.  Jesus promises all true believers a place in Paradise with Him.

Prayer to St. Dismas

We ask you now, Inspired St. Dismas, to pray that we will always be proud to proclaim ourselves as true Brothers and Sisters in and for your holy bravery; and that we too, at the last hour, may hear the words Our Lord spoke: "Amen I say to you, this day you will be with Me in Paradise."
