|Saint Caroline Gerhardinger
Blessed Caroline whose parents belonged to the working class of Bavaria was born on June 20, 1797. She was taught by the Canonesses of St. Augustine. She continued with her studies until 1809 when the Bavarian government closed all religious orders.
Saint Caroline Founded the Sisters of Notre Dame
After the government closed the religious orders, Blessed Caroline devoted herself to beginning a new order that would be dedicated to Jesus Christ and Christian education. The Vatican received concessions from the Bavarian government in 1828, reopening many religious orders.
Saint Caroline and a number of other nuns relocated to a convent that was repaired and she began the order she had been dreaming of. The religious order she founded was the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
