Patron Saint Tarcisius
Saint Tarcisius Prayer for Altar Servers
|Saint Tarcisius lived during the third century. He became a martyr at twelve years old when he refused to give up the Blessed Sacrament which he was carrying in his hands to an angry mob. They beat him to death. He was buried in the cemetery of St. Callistus.
Saint Tarcisius is the patron saint of altar servers and first communicants. His courage and faith make him a hero to all young Christians. The feast of Saint Tarcisius is celebrated on August 15.
O God, You have graciously called me to serve You upon Your altar. Grant me the graces that I need to serve You faithfully and wholeheartedly. Grant too that while serving You, may I follow the example of St. Tarcisius, who died protecting the Eucharist, and walk the same path that led him to Heaven.
St. Tarcisius, pray for me and for all servers.

Saint Tarcisius Today
Many Catholics give altar servers a Saint Tarcisius medal or a Saint Tarcisius pendant as a gift for serving their Church. Wearing a Saint Tarcisius medal is a reminder to the young altar servers to defend their faith and be devoted to the Blessed Sacrament.
O Jesus, who hast loved us with such exceeding great love
as to give us the ineffable gift of the Holy Eucharist,
inflame us with a burning zeal to promote Thy glory
by preparing worthily the little children
who are to approach Thy holy table for the first time.
Protect, O Sacred Heart of Jesus,
these young souls from the assaults of evil,
strengthen their faith,
increase their love and endow them
with all the virtues that will make them worthy to receive
Saint John the Baptist,
forerunner of the Messias,
prepare the way for Jesus in the hearts of these children.
keep safe the children who are making their first
