|St. Blaise Blessing
The Catholic Church offers Blessing of the Throat on the Feast of St. Blaise, every February 3. The priest holds two crossed candles at the throat of the person to be blessed and recites the St. Blaise Blessing. The blessing is to prevent any diseases or ailments of the throat and prevent against choking.
Many Catholics wear a St. Blaise medal or a St. Blaise necklace all year round to help prevent against choking and throat diseases. Parents often have their children wear a St. Blaise medal to protect them from throat ailments as they go about their day.
