Saint Bernard Honored the Blessed Virgin
Saint Bernard of Clairvaux offered special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and wrote several works about the Mother of Jesus. Saint Bernard was an important part of the rise in popularity and veneration to the Blessed Virgin.
Saint Bernard quote about the Virgin Mary:
"In dangers, in doubts, in difficulties, think of Mary, call upon Mary. Let not her name depart from your lips, never suffer it to leave your heart. And that you may more surely obtain the assistance of her prayer; neglect not to walk in her footsteps. With her for (your) guide, you shall never go astray; while invoking her, you shall never lose heart; So long as she is in your mind, you are safe from deception; while she holds your hand, you cannot fall; under her protection you have nothing to fear; if she walks before you, you shall not grow weary; if she shows you favor, you shall reach the goal."
Catholics have great devotion to the Blessed Virgin and are thankful to Saint Bernard for his part in the veneration of Mary. Many Catholics wear a Saint Bernard of Clairvaux medal in remembrance of his devotion to the Blessed Mother.
The Saint Bernard of Clairvaux necklace and Saint Bernard medallion are popular gifts for men and women entering the priesthood or convent. The Saint Bernard medal is also given as a gift on special religious occasions.
