O/L of MERCY
Our Lady of Mercy – Patron Saint of Prisoners
Our Lady of Mercy Prayer for Prisoners
|The title of Our Lady of Mercy is from Spanish origin. She is also known as Virgen de la Merced. Peter Nolascus founded the Mercedarians which was a religious order who tried to assist Christians held prisoner during the Arab invasion of Spain in medieval times. Because of the Mercedarians role in redeeming prisoners, Our Lady of Mercy became the Patron Saint of Prisoners.
Our Lady of Mercy,
Hear our prayer for the many men, women, and young people incarcerated today.
Grant mercy to their families. Give hope to their parents, children, and spouses. Give them the strength and courage to persevere through the pain of being apart.
Please heal those both mentally and physically who have been injured by crimes of violence.
Look after all the men and women who administer to prisoners: prison guards, social workers, religious, police, and volunteers.
Your Son said, “I was in prison and you visited me…whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me.” Guide us to always keep the words of your Son, Jesus, in our hearts and minds. Amen
Our Lady of Mercy Jewelry
|Do you know a prisoner who is alone, separated from friends and family, in the depths of despair? Giving an Our Lady of Mercy pendant to prisoners is a wonderful gift that gives them a ray of hope and the courage to go on. Knowing that the Blessed Virgin is watching over them and they are not alone is the best gift they could receive.
An Our Lady of Mercy charm is ideal for a teenage girl or a woman who needs the mercy of Mary to get them through each day. It is also a wonderful gift to give to the daughter or wife of a prisoner, so they can be reminded of Mary’s mercy and love.
