|Our Lady of La Vang is known by Vietnamese Catholics as a comforter of those who are persecuted for their belief in Jesus. The Vietnamese Catholics place their faith and trust in her to give them the courage they need to remain faithful to Jesus in a communist country.

Although Our Lady of La Vang appeared to the Vietnamese Catholics who were hiding from the murderous king of Vietnam in 1533, hundreds of thousands of other Catholics were murdered and tortured. Our Lady of La Vang consoled the Christians hiding in the jungle, helping with the sick and encouraging them to keep the faith. From the few Catholics who survived, the Vietnamese Catholic community of today evolved. Pope John Paul II canonized all Vietnamese Catholics who were killed for their belief in Jesus from 1533 to the current day as Vietnamese Martyrs.
Wearing the Image of Our Lady of La Vang
|Many Vietnamese Catholics wear the image of Our Lady of La Vang as a reminder of them of the sacrifice of Vietnamese Martyrs. They wear an Our Lady of La Vang pendant or an Our Lady of La Vang medal, praying for the strength to act with the courage of their fellow martyred Catholics if need be. An Our Lady of La Vang necklace is worn by many Vietnamese women, symbolizing their faith and asking the Blessed Virgin to ask Jesus for His guidance and mercy.
