Pardon Crucifix

What Is an Indulgence?

Many Catholics have heard the word 'indulgence' throughout their lives but are still confused as to the exact meaning of the word. Indulgences are a means of receiving pardon for sins above and beyond confession and absolution. Certain prayers, good works, and novenas offer indulgences. Indulgences are a means for Catholics to eliminate the time spent offering penance in purgatory after death for the sins they committed while alive. Purgatory is where souls are purified before entering heaven. The time spent in purgatory depends upon the number of venial sins that were committed during life. Indulgences accumulate during life and are used to help reduce the time spent in purgatory. For instance, a prayer that is worth 2 years of indulgence and is said 15 times would reduce the time spent in purgatory by 30 years.

Other people may also pray for indulgences and offer them up for the souls in purgatory. Family members of the deceased often pray for indulgences to help their loved ones reach heaven sooner. Praying before certain crosses and crucifixes often gain indulgences.

Types of Indulgences

  • † Plenary Indulgence - Plenary indulgence is granted if a person is truly sorry for their sins, promises to sin no more, received the Eucharist, goes to confession, and prays for the intentions of the Pope.
  • † Partial Indulgence - Partial indulgence relieves some of the punishment for venial sins. It is received by reciting prayers of indulgence or performing works of indulgence.
Indulgences through the Pardon Crucifix

Praying to the Pardon Crucifix is an ideal way for Catholics to gain indulgences for their loved ones who have passed away or for their own eternal souls. Pope Pius X granted indulgences for anyone who carried the Pardon Crucifix or wore the crucifix on their person.

There are also other requirements for gaining indulgences from the Pardon Crucifix:

I.  Kiss the Pardon Crucifix with sincerity

II.  Recite the following for an indulgence, "Our Father who art in heaven, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." "I beg the Blessed Virgin Mary to pray to the Lord our God for me."

III.  Receive Communion and go to Reconciliation on the following Holy Days to receive a plenary indulgence: Five Wounds of Our Lord, the Invention of the Holy Cross, The Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the Immaculate Conception, and the Seven Dolors of the Blessed Virgin Mary

IV. When at the moment of death, a person cannot receive the Last Rites, can kiss the Pardon crucifix, and ask forgiveness for sins, and forgive his neighbor, will receive a plenary indulgence.

Pardon Crucifix Wearing a Pardon Crucifix pendant is a wonderful way for all Catholics to carry this powerful crucifix with them always. Rather than wearing a traditional crucifix, the Pardon crucifix offers indulgences for Catholics who devoutly wear the cross during their daily lives.
