Our Lady of Lourdes Heals the Sick
The Our Lady of Lourdes apparition asked Bernadette
to dig a hole in the ground until she found water and
then drink from it. The spring that Bernadette
discovered is credited with the healing of seven people
with incurable afflictions at that time.
Today, millions of Catholic believers make pilgrimages
to Lourdes, France and pray to Our Lady of Lourdes for
cures from all types of diseases. They go to the Lourdes
grotto, wearing an Our Lady of Lourdes pendant and holding
a rosary in their hands. They fervently repeat the Our
Lady of Lourdes Litany and hope to be healed by the
miracle spring that Bernadette dug in the ground. To
this day sixty-seven known cures have occurred. These
cures are investigated by medical teams and confirmed.
Catholics believe that many more healings have taken
place but have not been investigated.
Send Petitions to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine
Personal petitions can be sent to the Our Lady of Lourdes
Shrine, asking for the mercy of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Catholics believe that their petitions will be answered
by the Blessed Virgin if they venerate her by wearing
the Our Lady of Lourdes medal or the Our Lady of Lourdes
necklace. In addition to wearing Our Lady of Lourdes
jewelry, fervent prayers to the Immaculate Conception
are recited in the hopes of personal petitions being
granted.
As Saint
Bernadette herself put her trust in Our Lady of
Lourdes with her words, "O my mother, in your heart
I placed all my anguish of my heart and it is there
that I gain strength and courage." Sainte Bernadette
Personal Notebook p.28. It is with this faith in Our
Lady of Lourdes that Catholics pilgrimage to the Grotto
of Lourdes, not matter how they are suffering or afflicted.
They call upon Our Lady in their time of need and she
gives them the courage they need to continue on their
journey toward eternal life.
Our Lady of Lourdes Grants Eternal
Happiness
Just as Our Lady of Lourdes told Bernadette that she
would not be happy in this life but would find eternal
happiness in the Heaven, so too, believers today pray
for the same words from the Blessed
Virgin.
