Who Is Our Lady of Africa?
Our Lady of Africa is actually a statue in honor of
the Blessed Virgin
Mary. The statue is located in the Our Lady of Africa
Basilica in Algiers, Algieria. The church is also referred
to as Notre Dame d'Afrique.
Our Lady of Africa is known as the Consolation of the
Afflicted for the miracles she has performed, protecting
and saving sailors from rough seas.
Our Lady of Africa is depicted in many different types
of statues. In some, she is holding the baby Jesus in
her lap as in the National Basilica in Washington D.C.
In other statues, she is opening her arms to all people,
offering help to those in need. No matter what the style
of the statue, they all show Our Lady of Africa as a
black Madonna.
