Jesus and the Cross
The cross
of Jesus is mentioned numerous times in scripture.
The crucifixion of Jesus and His resurrection are the
basis for all Christian beliefs. The cross is a symbol
of these Christian beliefs and is as important for followers
of Jesus today as it was two thousand years ago.
Scripture Passages Regarding the Cross
1 Peter
2:24 24and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the
cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness;
for by His wounds you were healed.
Matthew
28:4-6 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook
and became like dead men. 5The angel said to the women,
"Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking
for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has
risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where
he lay.
Luke
23:33-34 33When they came to the place called the Skull,
there they crucified him, along with the criminals-one
on his right, the other on his left. 34Jesus said, "Father,
forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."
And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
As can be seen from these scripture readings, Jesus
offers hope to all His followers for everlasting life
with His death on the cross.
Keeping the Cross of Jesus Alive Today
Christians keep the cross of Jesus alive today by wearing
jewelry crosses as an outward sign of their faith and
devotion. Crosses are given as gifts for religious ceremonies,
for indulgences, for help when in need, and as a daily
reminder to keep the faith of Jesus.
One of the most popular crosses that Christians wear
is the small metal cross. It is often given as a First
Communion metal cross because it is a perfect size for
children. It keeps Jesus close to their hearts each
day.
Large metal crosses are ideal for men and women. They
are both fashionable and reverent. The large metal cross
can be worn with any type of attire, whether casual,
business, or evening wear. Not only are metal crosses
beautiful, they are reminders of Jesus' love.
