What to Give as a First Holy Communion Gift

Children prepare for First Holy Communion for two years, usually between the ages of 6 and 7. Their preparatory time is spent learning about the teachings of Jesus Christ, how He lived and died for all people, and ascended into Heaven. They learn of Jesus' love for them and how they will receive the love of Jesus in the closest way possible by receiving His body through First Communion.

First Holy Communion is a day of joy in full communion with Jesus and is celebrated by, not only the recipient, but by the parish community, family, and friends. In this way, before the child goes to sleep at night or before setting off for the day in the morning, he or she can say a prayer, asking Jesus for his love and grace.

My First Communion

The first time I received Jesus was a wondrous day for me to be united with Christ, my Savior who died for us on Calvary. This card reminds me to thank Him for the special gift He gave: The sacrament of Holy Eucharist through which we all are saved. It helps me think of the first time Jesus came into my heart and if I but follow His message He and I will never part. As Jesus said on that holy night so many years ago If we but take and eat this bread Eternal life we will know. Each time I receive communion I'll think of His love for me and I'll thank Him for giving to us the greatest miracle in history.
